Ferdous Wahid and Manik Offer Hope Through New Song ‘Surjobar’

Veteran Bangladeshi pop singer Ferdous Wahid and singer-songwriter Amirul Momenin Manik have released a new song, ‘Surjobar’, carrying a message of hope amid disappointment, personal crises and shattered dreams.

The song is now available on the Manik Music YouTube channel. With lyrics written by Manik, the track seeks to encourage listeners to look beyond the frustrations of everyday life and find renewed optimism in the face of adversity.

Pijit Mahajan has composed the music, while Autumnal Moon has handled the musical arrangement. The collaboration brings together Ferdous Wahid’s longstanding experience in Bangladeshi pop music and Manik’s approach to life-oriented songwriting.

Speaking about the release, Ferdous Wahid said that broken dreams, betrayal and various personal struggles had become familiar experiences for many people, leaving them frustrated and disheartened.

He explained that ‘Surjobar’ was created to counter this sense of darkness and inspire hope among listeners. Praising both the lyrics and the melody, the veteran singer described the song as exceptional and said he had not lent his voice to such a realistic composition for a long time.

Ferdous also expressed his belief that Bengali music could contribute to positive change by encouraging people to remain hopeful despite the difficulties they face.

Ferdous Wahid rose to prominence in the 1980s, becoming one of the familiar voices in Bangladesh’s pop music scene. Several of his songs, including ‘Emon Ekta Maa Dena’, ‘Mamuniya’ and ‘Agey Jodi Jantam’, gained widespread popularity and helped establish his reputation among listeners.

His contribution to Bengali popular music has continued to draw attention over the years. His son, Habib Wahid, subsequently developed his own musical identity, gaining recognition for arrangements and compositions that brought fresh approaches to Bengali songs.

Manik, meanwhile, became widely known in 2005 through his song ‘Maa Je Dosh Mash Dosh Din’. He later attracted further attention with songs such as ‘Aay Bhor’, ‘Neel Porokiya’ and ‘Sokal Hobe Ki’, including works performed with renowned singer Nachiketa Chakraborty.

Beyond music, Manik has pursued writing and journalism. His book, ‘A Few Stupid Teachers of the University’, became a bestseller at the Bangla Academy’s Ekushey Book Fair in 2012. He also received the UNESCO Club Journalism Award in 2011 in recognition of his work in journalism.

Manik founded ChangeTV.press with an emphasis on YouTube-based journalism, reflecting his interest in digital media and alternative forms of news presentation. He currently serves as Director of Information and Public Relations at Hamdard Bangladesh.

Through ‘Surjobar’, the two artists bring together their respective experiences in music to convey a message rooted in resilience and optimism. Rather than focusing solely on disappointment, the song seeks to remind listeners that hope can remain meaningful even when life brings setbacks and uncertainty.
