NBR Warns Jobseekers Following Fraudulent Recruitment Letter Forgery

The National Revenue Board (NBR) has issued a stern warning to public service aspirants after discovering a fraudulent recruitment letter issued under the agency’s name. The forged document fraudulently promises appointments to eight individuals for the position of Office Assistant-cum-Computer Typist.

Speaking on the matter, NBR Public Relations Officer Alamin Sheikh confirmed that the circular is entirely fake, emphasizing that no such recruitment notification was released by any official department. He added that the institutional credentials, administrative signatures, and reference numbers used throughout the document were fabricated by fraudsters aiming to deceive unsuspecting jobseekers.

Anatomy of the Fraudulent Document

The fake appointment letter, dated 15 October 2026, alleges that eight specific candidates have been selected under Grade-16 of the National Pay Scale. To heighten the illusion of legitimacy, the perpetrators specified an inflated pay grade ranging from Tk 21,900 to Tk 52,900. Candidates were directed to formally report for duty at the Board Administration Wing of the National Revenue Board by 1 November.

To make the scheme appear authentic, the forged document incorporates standard official layouts, including the government agency’s name, physical address, official website URL, and administrative memo numbers. It also lists personal details of the targeted applicants, including their full names, examination roll numbers, parental details, and permanent residential addresses. Despite the sophisticated presentation, tax authorities confirmed that every aspect of the letter is invalid.

Growing Threats in Public Sector Recruitment

Scams targeting government jobs remain a persistent issue across the country. Fraudulent networks routinely exploit the high demand for stable civil service employment by crafting sophisticated counterfeit documents, demanding large sums of money, or collecting sensitive personal data from vulnerable applicants under the pretext of job security.

Tax officials underscored that a letter carrying an official logo, memo number, or seemingly legitimate signature does not guarantee its authenticity. Jobseekers are strongly advised to verify any offer letter independently before taking further action. Verification should always be conducted through official government portals, publicly archived recruitment circulars, or direct contact with the administration branch of the issuing authority. Candidates must refrain from transferring funds, handing over original academic credentials, or sharing confidential personal data with unverified entities.
