Masud Kamal, a journalist and political analyst, has criticised the current political climate, stating that Mahfuz Alam cannot be viewed in isolation but must be seen as a mouthpiece of the current government. Speaking on a talk show aired by a private television channel, Kamal argued that the administration is attempting to instil fear among the public by invoking the spectre of another “1/11” scenario, effectively saying:
“Support us, or chaos will return.”
He described this as a calculated strategy rooted in fear-mongering.
The Facebook Post and Its Implications
Masud Kamal noted:
“Whether a Facebook post is made and then deleted is not what truly matters. What matters is the mindset behind the post. The post has already made that clear.”
He went on to say that although many thoughts remain unspoken due to social or political pressures, the intentions behind actions or inactions are what truly define their significance.
Allegations Against the Chief Adviser
Kamal recalled:
“At one point, the Chief Adviser asked everyone for donations. That’s an NGO mentality.”
He further elaborated:
“The Adviser may claim innocence, but if someone from your party was responsible, did you identify and punish them? If not, then the responsibility is yours. This is the mindset we’re seeing.”
According to him, the government is attempting to project itself as the only viable option by using intimidation tactics:
“I don’t solely blame the BNP or the NCP (National Citizens Party). The greatest damage is being caused by the government itself—strategically and deliberately.”
Criticism of Muhammad Yunus and the NCP
Masud Kamal strongly criticised the NCP’s leadership decision, saying:
“Their only major mistake was choosing Muhammad Yunus, a fundamentally flawed person, as their figurehead. This single decision has led to the downfall of the entire party.”
He added that the NCP trusted Yunus blindly, never realising how their collapse was unfolding from within.
The ‘Riyad’ Incident and Question of Influence
Kamal referenced an earlier statement by an individual named Riyad, who had confessed:
“I come from a poor family. I saw so much money suddenly and lost control.”
In response, Kamal questioned:
“Who gave him that much money? Even the wealthiest families don’t hand over millions to their children daily. They fear it will ruin them. But when someone is handed cash deliberately, of course their judgement can become clouded.”
Final Remarks
In conclusion, Masud Kamal held the government accountable, saying:
“Who orchestrated this? It’s the government. I feel sympathy for the NCP members, because I know the blame isn’t theirs alone.”
