Officers from the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) in Manikganj conducted a targeted morning raid on Wednesday, apprehending a suspect found in possession of illegal shisha and cannabis. The operation, executed around 09:00 hrs on 28 October 2026, targeted a residential property situated in Garpara village under the Garpara Union of Manikganj Sadar Upazila.
Acting on precise intelligence, an operational team led by Sub-Inspector Md Jamal Hossain executed the search under the direct oversight and guidance of Humayun Kabir Khondakar, Deputy Director of the Manikganj District DNC Office. Upon searching the suspect’s home, law enforcement officers discovered a concealed stash containing 780 grams of flavoured shisha featuring a 0.5 per cent nicotine content, a traditional hookah pipe, 500 grams of specialized shisha charcoal, and 100 grams of processed cannabis.
The arrested individual has been identified as 45-year-old Md Burhan Ali, son of the late Hamid Ali, residing in Ward No. 1 within Garpara village. Following the seizure, officers formally detained Ali at the scene and seized the illicit substances alongside the consumption equipment as evidence.
A formal case has subsequently been registered against the suspect at Manikganj Sadar Police Station under the relevant sections of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018. Following standard procedure, the accused was produced before the local magistrate’s court to face trial.
This successful raid underscores the ongoing enforcement measures taken by Bangladesh’s Department of Narcotics Control to curb the distribution of illicit drugs and unregulated tobacco products across regional districts. In recent years, public health authorities and anti-narcotics personnel have intensified vigilance surrounding flavoured shisha products and imported molasses tobacco mixtures. Often perceived incorrectly by younger users as harmless flavoured smoke, these compounds frequently contain nicotine levels and toxic heavy metals comparable to or exceeding standard tobacco products, posing serious public health risks alongside traditionally controlled substances like cannabis.
Reiterating their commitment following the operation, district officials reasserted their adherence to a strict zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and distribution. Authorities continue to urge community members to support law enforcement efforts by remaining vigilant and choosing healthy, drug-free lifestyles.
