A gas balloon explosion occurred at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital during an event commemorating the “July Mass Uprising Day”, resulting in injuries to at least ten individuals.
The incident took place on Tuesday, 5 August, around 3:00 PM at the event venue. Following the explosion, the injured were immediately taken to the Emergency Department of the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Medical Response
Dr Shaon Bin Rahman, Resident Surgeon at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, confirmed the incident and treatment details. According to Dr Rahman:
“All ten individuals were administered initial treatment at the emergency unit and subsequently released.”

The gas balloon explosion disrupted the scheduled programme marking the “July Mass Uprising Day”, which commemorates a pivotal movement in the nation’s political history. Although the nature of the balloon setup remains unclear, preliminary indications suggest the blast was unintentional and caused by mishandling or over-compression of gas-filled balloons.
