Senior Joint Secretary General of the BNP, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, has criticised the interim government’s information adviser, Mahfuz Alam, for his recent remark that “the echoes of 1/11 are being heard,” describing it as both irresponsible and childish.
Rizvi made these comments during a press conference on Tuesday afternoon (5 August) at the BNP central office in Nayapaltan, following a month-long “July Uprising” programme.
Rizvi’s Remarks on Mahfuz Alam’s Statement
Rizvi said, “Such statements from those in government are an attempt to divert public perception for ulterior motives. These childish remarks cannot be expected from anyone responsible.”
He further referred to 5 August as a day of mourning and joy, stating, “It marks the terrible consequences of sixteen years of brutal suffering. It is, in fact, a day of victory for democracy.”
Hope for Election Preparations
During the conference, Rizvi expressed hope that the interim government would organise elections within a reasonable timeframe.

The controversy arose after Mahfuz Alam posted on his verified Facebook page just after 7 pm on Monday, writing:
“The echoes of 1/11 are being heard! However, July will prevail. The people’s struggle will not be defeated.”
However, within a few hours, Alam deleted the post. By 10:15 pm on Monday, the post was no longer visible on his Facebook page.
