The remains were discovered on Friday (30 October) morning in the Kadimdhallia area of Mirzapur upazila. Passers-by and residents spotted the body beside the highway in the early hours of the day and immediately alerted the authorities.
Following the report, police from Mirzapur Police Station and Gorai Highway Police Station reached the scene. Officers subsequently recovered the remains and took them into their custody for further investigation.
The woman’s identity and age had not been established at the time of recovery. Police are working to determine who she was and establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
Initial suspicions suggest that the woman may have been murdered at another location before parts of her body were abandoned beside the highway. Investigators are examining whether the remains were dumped there to conceal the crime, obstruct the identification process or mislead law enforcement agencies.
Local residents and police have raised the possibility that personal enmity or another criminal motive may have been behind the killing. However, no motive has been confirmed, and investigators have yet to establish where or when the alleged murder took place.
The discovery has caused considerable concern in the surrounding area. The condition in which the remains were found has raised questions about the circumstances of the killing and whether those responsible deliberately chose the roadside location to dispose of evidence.
Mirzapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Al Mamun said Gorai Highway Police recovered the body after receiving information from local residents.
He added that, following the necessary legal procedures and the filing of a case, the remains had been sent to the mortuary at Tangail General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The examination is expected to help establish the cause and nature of death and may provide important forensic evidence for the investigation. Identifying the victim is also a key priority, as it could help investigators trace her family, recent movements and possible connections to the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation to establish the woman’s identity, determine the motive behind the suspected murder and identify those responsible.
Investigators are also expected to examine how the remains came to be left beside the highway and whether the killing took place elsewhere before they were transported to the area.
No arrests or confirmed information about those responsible had been reported at the time of publication. Police said the investigation was under way and further legal action would follow as evidence emerged.
