Zainul Abedin Farooq, adviser to the BNP Chairperson, has declared,
“Insha’Allah, elections will be held in the country. No one except Allah can stop the elections.”
He made these remarks on Tuesday morning (5 August) in Senbagh, Noakhali, during a rally and gathering organised by the BNP and its affiliated organisations to mark the anniversary of the July people’s uprising and its victory.
Urging Immediate Election Announcement
Addressing the Chief Adviser, Farooq said,
“We support you, but please announce the election date today. The longer the election is delayed, the more organised the Awami League becomes, and conspiracies deepen.”
Criticism of PR and Majority Voting Advocates
Farooq criticised those advocating for proportional representation (PR) and majority voting systems, accusing them of aiding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,
“Those who desire PR and majority voting have sheltered Sheikh Hasina, and their outcome has been a death sentence. If the National Party had not boycotted the Awami League’s uncontested election in 2014, then only Allah’s power could have held that election. Hussein Muhammad Ershad betrayed by sitting in hospital and becoming MP uncontested. That same Awami League has now destroyed the National Party.
Rejecting Elections Without BNP
He warned against holding elections excluding BNP,
“The people of this country will never accept elections without BNP.”
