Barcelona Thrash Alavés 6-1 to Match Historic Goalscoring Record

Barcelona bounced back from consecutive defeats in emphatic style on Saturday night, dismantling Deportivo Alavés 6-1 at Camp Nou. The resounding victory under manager Hansi Flick saw the Catalan giants equal an extraordinary 86-year-old La Liga goalscoring record, capping off a dominant display of fluid attacking football.

The hosts asserted their authority from the opening whistle, sweeping aside the visitors’ defensive lines with four first-half goals. Flick’s side maintained their ruthless momentum after the interval, adding two further goals to complete the rout. Raphinha and Lamine Yamal each netted braces, while Fermín López and substitute Anthony Gordon also found the score-sheet. Mariano Díaz managed a solitary consolation goal for a beleaguered Alavés side.

Data compiled by statistical research organisation Stats Foot reveals that Barcelona have now scored 46 goals in their opening 11 La Liga fixtures this season. The Catalan club become only the second team in La Liga history to achieve this milestone, matching the benchmark originally set by Sevilla during the 1940-41 campaign. Highlighting their current offensive potency, Barcelona have now amassed 57 goals across 14 matches in all competitions this term.

The match also showcased exceptional individual performances from Raphinha and Yamal. Raphinha’s double took his domestic tally to 14 goals in 10 La Liga appearances, making him the leading goalscorer across Europe’s top five leagues this season. In 21st-century La Liga history, only Cristiano Ronaldo has managed a superior tally through the opening 10 matches, having scored 18 goals for Real Madrid during the 2014-15 season.

Yamal continued his sensational form, bringing his total goal involvements for the season to 23, comprising 12 goals and 11 assists. No other player across Europe’s top five leagues currently matches the teenager’s overall goal contributions.

The victory consolidates Barcelona’s position at the top of the La Liga table, raising their tally to 30 points from 11 matches, two points clear of second-placed Atlético Madrid on 28 points. Flick’s squad now turn their attention to European competition, where they face English side Aston Villa in the UEFA Champions League before a crucial league encounter away against Atlético Madrid.
