Two Bangladeshi Workers Killed in Separate UAE Road Accidents

Two Bangladeshi expatriates have been killed in separate road accidents in the United Arab Emirates, one in Fujairah and the other in Sharjah. The incidents occurred on Thursday (29 October) and Friday (30 October), leaving their families in Bangladesh and members of the Bangladeshi community in the UAE mourning their deaths.

The deceased have been identified as Bayezid Raihan, 27, from Sreemangal in Moulvibazar district, and Saifuddin Sikdar Mohsin, 49, from Boalkhali in Chattogram district.

According to police and expatriate community sources, Bayezid was carrying out delivery work on Friday morning in the Al Fawz area along the Fujairah-Khorfakkan Road. His delivery motorcycle collided with a stationary lorry parked beside the road. The impact was severe, and he died at the scene.

Bayezid had moved to the UAE five years ago in search of better employment opportunities. He had been working in the delivery sector, a job that regularly required him to travel on busy roads. His death has come as a devastating blow to his family, who had been relying on his earnings from abroad.

A day earlier, on Thursday afternoon, another Bangladeshi expatriate, Mohsin, lost his life in a separate accident in the Al Khawazamiah industrial area of Sharjah.

Mohsin was travelling to his workplace in a pick-up van when a lorry struck the vehicle from behind. He sustained critical injuries in the collision. Police rescued him and took him to Al Qassimi Hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead at around 2.45pm.

His elder brother, Rezaul Karim Sikdar, said Mohsin had suffered a severe head injury in the accident.

Mohsin had travelled to the UAE only two years ago in pursuit of a livelihood. His family home is in Sarowatoli Union of Boalkhali Upazila in Chattogram. Like many other Bangladeshis working overseas, he had left home in the hope of securing a better financial future for his family.

The deaths of the two expatriates in separate incidents within a span of two days have cast a pall of grief over their respective hometowns and the Bangladeshi community in the UAE. Their families are now facing the difficult prospect of bringing their loved ones home for burial.

Both bodies are currently being kept in hospital mortuaries in the UAE. The remains will be repatriated to Bangladesh once the necessary police formalities and other official procedures have been completed, with the involvement of the Bangladesh Embassy.

The two incidents have also drawn attention to the road safety risks faced by expatriate workers, particularly those whose jobs involve regular travel. Delivery riders and workers commuting to workplaces often spend considerable time on busy roads, where collisions involving heavy vehicles can have fatal consequences.

For the families of Bayezid and Mohsin, however, the immediate concern is the return of their loved ones. What began as an attempt to build a more secure future abroad has ended in tragedy, leaving two Bangladeshi families grieving thousands of miles away from where their relatives lost their lives.
