Police have arrested five individuals in connection with the brutal stabbing and murder of journalist Md. Asaduzzaman Tuhin. The Gaziur Metropolitan Police confirmed the arrests on Friday (8 August).

Meanwhile, a CCTV video related to the incident has circulated online. The footage shows a young man publicly assaulting a young woman, while six to seven other youths armed with machetes, knives, and cleavers attempt to attack the man. When he flees, the armed group chases after him.

Initial police investigations reveal that journalist Tuhin was recording this incident on video when the armed assailants turned on him as well. Trying to save his life, he ran to a nearby tea stall in the Eidgah Market area. However, the attackers followed him inside and brutally stabbed him repeatedly, causing his death at the scene. The perpetrators then fled immediately.

An eyewitness tea stall owner said, “The journalist came into the shop, and then five or six people armed with machetes, cleavers, and knives started attacking him. When I pleaded with them to stop, they cursed and threatened to slit my throat. I got scared and hid.”

The deceased, Md. Asaduzzaman Tuhin (32), was the son of Hasan Jamal from Bhatipara village, Fulbaria police station area, Mymensingh district. He worked as the Gaziur correspondent for the daily newspaper Protidin.

Md. Robiul Hasan, Deputy Commissioner (Crime-North) of Gaziur Metropolitan Police, said, “We believe that journalist Tuhin was killed because he was filming a video of another assault. The suspects have been identified, and several police teams are conducting operations to arrest them. Once they are in custody, the full details of the incident will become clear.”
