Landmine Blast Wounds Thai Soldiers on Tense Cambodia Border

A landmine explosion on Saturday injured three Thai soldiers on patrol near the border with Cambodia, just days after both nations agreed to a ceasefire to halt their deadliest military confrontation in decades.

The Royal Thai Military stated that the blast took place in Sisaket province at approximately 10:00 am (0300 GMT).

One of the soldiers sustained a serious leg injury, another was wounded in the back and arm, while the third suffered significant pressure-related damage to the ear.

This incident follows a recent five-day conflict that resulted in the deaths of at least 43 individuals and concluded on 29 July. The fighting stemmed from a longstanding dispute over temples located along the border.

The clashes involved the use of fighter jets, artillery, rockets, and ground troops, culminating in a ceasefire after diplomatic efforts led by US President Donald Trump.

A meeting of defence officials in Kuala Lumpur concluded on Thursday with an agreement to extend the truce.

Thailand’s acting Prime Minister, Phumtham Wechayachai, was present in the neighbouring Surin province on Saturday. He has instructed the military to ensure the wounded soldiers receive comprehensive medical care.

The hostilities last month along the 800-kilometre (500-mile) border displaced more than 300,000 people, forcing them to flee from conflict zones on both sides.
