The Bagerhat Sahitya Parishad held a solemn programme on Saturday to mark the first anniversary of the July Mass Uprising, paying tribute to the martyrs and those injured during the historic event.

The event commenced under the presidency of Prof Zaman Asad, who led the gathering at the Retired Government Employees Welfare Association auditorium.

Several distinguished speakers addressed the attendees, including Senior Advocate Salimullah Ellis, renowned poets Zakir Hossain and HM Humayun Kabir, Azad Ruhul Amin, former General Secretary of Bagerhat Press Club, and Sheikh Abu Sayeed, editor of the fortnightly Khan Jahan.

Artists from the Khan Jahan group enlivened the occasion with heartfelt musical performances. Following this, the publication Eternal July was released and distributed among the participants.

A documentary highlighting the lives and sacrifices of martyrs and injured individuals from the Khulna division was also screened, providing a poignant reminder of the uprising’s impact.

The programme concluded with special prayers offered in memory of the martyrs and for the speedy recovery of the injured.
