Unfortunate Investigation Officer Never Contacted Me, Says Roni

Former Member of Parliament for Patuakhali-3, Golam Maula Rony, has received the police final report in the case concerning the attack on his vehicle. However, Rony revealed that the investigating officer never met, called, or summoned him before submitting the report.

Expressing his frustration, Golam Maula Rony posted a statement on his verified Facebook page, including a photo of the current Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali. He wrote: “Salutations and best wishes to the gentleman in the photograph! Though we have no personal acquaintance, after his appointment, I felt he was honest, capable, and experienced. Yet, under his tenure, I have been humiliated, embarrassed, and harmed by the arbitrary actions of officers under his command. Therefore, I submitted the matter to him in hope of justice.”

Details of the Attack

Rony stated that on 21 May 2024, at around 11:00 am, while travelling to his office through the University of Dhaka area, his car was obstructed near the National Four Leaders’ Mausoleum by several assailants armed with hammers and other weapons. They smashed the windscreen and tried to open the doors to attack him. Rony narrowly escaped by driving away quickly.

Roni’s Appeal to DMP Commissioner

Rony expressed his disappointment:

“After the fall of the Awami League government, I expected better support from the police as a political dissenter. Unfortunately, the police have submitted the final report, and regrettably, the investigating officer never contacted me or took my testimony.”

He concluded by addressing a question to the DMP Commissioner:

“What should I do now?”
