The temporary court order prohibiting Jatiya Party Chairman Golam Mohammad Quader (GM Quader) and the party’s Joint Office Secretary Mahmud Alam from carrying out organisational activities has been revoked. The related case has also been withdrawn.

On Tuesday, 12 August, Acting Judge Robayet Ferdous of the First Joint District Judge’s Court in Dhaka issued the order.

On Wednesday, 13 August, GM Quader’s lawyer, Monowar Hossain Alam, confirmed the development. He stated that on 2 August, the plaintiff in the case, Jatiya Party Senior Co-Chairman Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, filed an application to withdraw the lawsuit. On 11 August, the case was transferred to the Dhaka Joint District Judge’s Court, and the next day, Judge Robayet Ferdous approved the withdrawal request. Simultaneously, the temporary ban on GM Quader and Mahmud Alam’s party activities was lifted, meaning there are no longer any restrictions on GM Quader’s organisational work.

Previous Court Ban

Earlier, on 30 July, following a petition from the plaintiff, the court had imposed a temporary ban on the organisational activities of GM Quader and Mahmudul Alam. At the same time, it reinstated the primary and organisational positions of ten party leaders, including Co-Chairman Anisul Islam Mahmud.

The reinstated leaders were:

Name Position District
Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud Senior Co-Chairman
ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader Senior Co-Chairman
Md Mujibul Haque Chunnu Secretary General
M. A. Razzak Khan Office Secretary-2
Solaiman Alam Sheth Presidium Member Chattogram
Nazma Akter Presidium Member Feni
Md Zahirul Islam Zahir Presidium Member Tangail
Mostafa Al Mahmud Presidium Member Jamalpur
Jasim Uddin Presidium Member Netrokona
Arifur Rahman Khan Presidium Member Gazipur

The court’s earlier order also instructed that organisational activities be carried out in sequence according to seniority.

Background of the Case

According to the case statement, on 18 July 2019, the party’s then Secretary General, Moshiur Rahman Ranga, announced GM Quader as the party’s Chairman in violation of the party constitution. Later, on 28 December 2019, GM Quader convened a party conference and council where he allegedly approved a new constitution unlawfully.

Most recently, on 28 June 2025, seven Presidium Members were removed from all positions, including their primary membership, followed by the removal of three more. Their names were also deleted from the party’s official website.

On 10 July 2025, the lawsuit was filed on behalf of the ten leaders, including Anisul Islam Mahmud, who had been removed.

Party Conference and Leadership Changes

Following the ban on GM Quader’s activities, the Jatiya Party’s 10th National Conference was held on 9 August. In this conference:

  • Anisul Islam Mahmud was elected Chairman
  • Ruhul Amin Howlader was elected Secretary General
  • Kazi Firoz Rashid became Senior Co-Chairman
  • Former Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu became Executive Chairman

However, GM Quader’s faction rejected the decision to form the new committee.
