BNP and Chhatra Dal Leaders Assault Teacher, Paraded Him Through Market

In a shocking incident in Satkhira Sadar Upazila, an assistant teacher of Boli Mujibur Rahman Secondary School, Shafiqul Rahman, was assaulted and paraded through the local market. The event occurred on Sunday, 17 August, at around 10:00 AM. The victim has filed a written complaint at Satkhira Sadar Police Station.

 

Incident Details

According to the headteacher, K. M. Azaharuzzaman:

  • Several BNP leaders and activists entered the teacher’s office, alleging that he had given private tuition to a student.
  • They assaulted Shafiqul Rahman, then 10–12 individuals dragged him out, continued the assault, and paraded him through the market.
  • Eventually, he was detained at the Union Parishad office.
  • Other teachers and students later rescued him and returned him safely to the school.
  • The school president and the Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) were informed, and the police intervened to restore order.

Responses from Alleged Accused

  • Selim Akhtar, former Boli Union BNP president, stated that a minor scuffle occurred between the teacher and some locals, but denied personal involvement. He claimed prior allegations of misconduct had been made against the teacher.
  • Md. Rasheduzzaman, general secretary of Boli Union Chhatra Dal, said that Shafiqul Rahman had faced previous misconduct allegations. After receiving new complaints on Saturday, he and others went to the school, which resulted in a mob dragging the teacher outside. He admitted failing to control the situation.

 

Police and Administrative Response

  • OC Shaminul Haque of Satkhira Sadar Police Station confirmed that Shafiqul Rahman filed a complaint and said: “Action will be taken according to the law after investigation.”
  • School President and UNO Shoaib Ahmad called representatives from both sides, heard the matter, and advised Shafiqul Rahman to pursue legal action. They emphasised that if the teacher is proven guilty, legal measures will be taken.

 

This incident has raised serious concerns about school safety, political interference in educational institutions, and the use of public spaces for intimidation.
