Veteran Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has officially announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL). On Wednesday, 27 August, Ashwin made the announcement through a heartfelt post on his social media account on X (formerly Twitter).
In his statement, Ashwin wrote: “A special day, and therefore a special beginning. People often say that every ending brings a new beginning. Today marks the conclusion of my time as an IPL cricketer, but it also marks the beginning of a new journey—exploring the game further through different leagues. I want to express my gratitude to all the franchises that have given me unforgettable memories and lasting bonds over the years. A special thanks to the IPL and the BCCI. I am excited to embrace what lies ahead and make the most of every opportunity.”
Ashwin’s career in the IPL has spanned 16 years, during which he has played for five different franchises. Making his debut in 2009 for Chennai Super Kings, he quickly became a vital player in the league.
