Liverpool are on the verge of breaking their own transfer record with the acquisition of Swedish striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United. Just last June, Liverpool spent €125 million to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, making the German footballer the most expensive player in Premier League history. However, Wirtz’s record lasted barely two and a half months, as Isak is poised to surpass it.
Liverpool were determined to secure Isak’s signature. In August, they made an initial offer of €127 million, which Newcastle rejected, demanding €173 million. The transfer eventually progressed after both sides compromised: Newcastle lowered their asking price, Liverpool increased their offer, and Isak himself encouraged the move by refusing to train with his teammates in recent days.
| Club | Player | Transfer Fee (Million €) | Notes |
| Liverpool | Florian Wirtz | 125 | Previous Premier League record |
| Newcastle → Liverpool | Alexander Isak | 144 | New Premier League record; ~BDT 2,000 crore |
The final deal reportedly costs Liverpool approximately €144 million, which translates to over 2,000 crore Bangladeshi Taka. The transfer agreement was reached on the last day of the Premier League transfer window, 16 June.
Although neither Liverpool nor Newcastle have formally announced the transfer, multiple media outlets, including BBC, Sky Sports, and ESPN, have confirmed that Isak will sign a six-year contract with Liverpool.
Isak is expected to arrive at Anfield today for a medical examination and to complete the official signing paperwork. Fans can anticipate his formal unveiling in the coming days.
This move also sets a new record for the most expensive outgoing Premier League transfer, surpassing Philippe Coutinho, who joined Barcelona in 2018 for €135 million.
Before joining Newcastle, Isak had represented Real Sociedad and Borussia Dortmund. In the previous season with Newcastle, he played 42 matches, scoring 27 goals, and was instrumental in the club’s Carabao Cup triumph. Over his Newcastle career, Isak has accumulated 109 appearances, 62 goals, and 11 assists.
This high-profile transfer not only reshapes Liverpool’s attacking options but also cements Isak’s status as one of Europe’s most valuable forwards.
