Aminul Islam Bulbul, who assumed the role of President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) about three months ago, had initially planned a short tenure at the board. However, he has now changed his decision and announced his intention to contest the upcoming BCB election for a position on the Board of Directors.
During a visit to the Sylhet District Stadium, Bulbul inspected the stadium’s infrastructure and facilities. Speaking to journalists, he confirmed his plans to participate in the BCB election, stating: “I want to contribute further to the development of cricket in the country in response to national needs.”
The BCB Board of Directors election is likely to be held on 4 October. Bulbul elaborated: “In the first week of October, InshaAllah, we will conduct the election. We aim for a proper and transparent election. Here, the elections are not for the president but for the directors. That is our primary goal, and I will try to be part of it.”
Before joining the BCB, Bulbul had extensive experience working with the International Cricket Council (ICC). He joined Bangladesh cricket to utilise that experience for the country’s cricketing development. Initially, he had taken on the role on a temporary basis, often mentioning that his tenure at the board was meant to be short-term.
However, after a few months of working closely with the BCB, his perspective has changed. Speculation about his participation in the upcoming election has been circulating for the past few days, and Bulbul’s latest statement confirms this.
On 28 August, he had remarked: “My personal wish… look, I came here suddenly and took on a responsibility. Everything permanent I had was at the ICC. I left it all for my country. I did as much as I could for as long as possible. Beyond that, I have no control there.”
