Renowned for melodies that seem to speak the language of the soul and music that transcends time, A R Rahman is now stepping away from the spotlight of fame to share a more intimate chapter of his life.
In a recent interview, Rahman revealed that after decades of relentless dedication, he has slowed the pace of his professional life, prioritising family, spiritual well-being, and personal growth.
He reflected: “Often, plans I make are disrupted. Sometimes everything moves beyond my control. I am like water—flowing, flexible, silent. I take the shape of the vessel I am placed in. Work comes in its own rhythm, in its own time. In God’s timeline, there is a unique path for me—where patience guides me and faith gives me momentum.”
These words encapsulate the creative philosophy behind his music, where Rahman surrenders to time and flows with the will of the Creator. Just as his compositions are not bound by any structure, his life follows a fluid, unpredictable current.
Despite having reached the pinnacle of success, this Oscar-winning composer admits that in his early career, the relentless pursuit of work caused him to miss many precious moments in life.
Rahman confessed: “Earlier, I was almost like a madman, working day and night. By overworking, I missed the true flavour of life.”
Now, he has halted the constant rush, giving himself time to learn, experience, and enjoy life with his family.
This transformation is not merely about time management—it represents a fundamental shift in his outlook on life. Beyond fame, music, and accolades, Rahman has discovered the essence of life: relationships, emotions, and inner peace. His journey serves as a reminder that life’s most beautiful melodies often emerge in silence.
Rahman’s personal life has recently been the subject of speculation, particularly regarding his marital status. While he has not publicly commented on rumours of separation, his strong emphasis on spending time with loved ones underscores that personal relationships remain central to his life.
For context, Rahman married Saira Banu in 1995. Over nearly three decades of marriage, they built a harmonious home and raised three children: Khatija, Rahima, and A R Ameen. The stability and depth of this relationship represent a melody in his life that may not play on stage, but resonates profoundly in his heart.
