South Africa, having already secured the ODI series against England with a match in hand, faced humiliation in the third and final game as they suffered a world-record defeat by 342 runs. To add to their misery, Temba Bavuma’s side was fined 5% of their match fees by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for maintaining a slow over-rate during the encounter.
England’s Batting Onslaught
On Sunday, South Africa’s bowlers were torn apart by the English batting line-up:
As a result, ICC Elite Panel match referee Javagal Srinath imposed the fine at the end of the match.
ICC Code of Conduct
According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, players and support staff are liable to fines if matches are not completed within the scheduled time.
The sanction was confirmed by on-field umpires Nitin Menon and Russell Warren, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid Saikat, and fourth umpire Mike Burns.
