Afghanistan Pay Heavy Price for Unused Decision Reviews

The Afghanistan national cricket team are facing a monumental task in the ongoing, solitary Test match against India at New Chandigarh, heavily penalised by their failure to utilise the Decision Review System (DRS). Over the course of the opening two days, the visiting side neglected to review three critical umpiring decisions, each of which subsequently proved to be a significant error upon television replay. The on-field umpire turned down the appeal, and the Afghanistan captain, Hashmatullah Shahidi, chose not to initiate a formal television review.

The replay for the first delivery indicated that Gill would have been dismissed, whilst the replay for the subsequent ball clearly demonstrated that the cricket ball had brushed the edge of Pant’s bat before being collected by Zazai.
