Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have arrested Sohag Fakir, an assistant director at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC), for his alleged involvement in leaking question papers for an official recruitment examination.
A specialized team from the CID’s Cyber Police Centre conducted an overnight raid on Tuesday, 20 October, taking Fakir into custody from the Badarpasha area under Rajoir police station in Madaripur district. Local police assisted CID officers during the targeted operation.
Special Superintendent of Police (Cyber Investigation and Operations) Md Sufi Ullah confirmed the arrest on Wednesday, 21 October. He stated that investigative findings directly linked the senior council official to the question paper leak syndicate. During the raid, officers seized two smartphones along with digital evidence from Fakir’s possession.
The controversy stems from a national recruitment process conducted by the Department of Youth Development. The department was scheduled to hold a competitive examination on 10 October for the position of Assistant Upazila Youth Development Officer. However, authorities were forced to postpone the exam at the last minute after widespread allegations surfaced that the question papers had been compromised prior to the test.
Following the cancellation, a formal case was registered at Motijheel Police Station on 11 October to investigate the breach. The CID Cyber Police Centre assumed responsibility for the inquiry, deploying intelligence gathering and digital tracking tools to trace the origin of the leaked content.
Investigators tracked Fakir’s location to Madaripur after analyzing digital footprints and evidence gathered during the ongoing investigation. CID officials confirmed that legal proceedings are underway to produce the accused before the court. The law enforcement agency continues its investigation to identify and apprehend other potential members of the question-leaking network.
