The song Baraai Kore, featured in the Eid-released film Pressure Cooker, has drawn notable public attention since its release. The track was written, composed, and performed by Ankan Kumar. Its official music video was released on YouTube on 21 March and has since gained close to one million views within roughly six weeks, reflecting consistent audience engagement.
The song centres on an emotional expression within a romantic relationship, focusing on themes of longing, attachment, and personal appeal. Listener responses on YouTube have frequently highlighted the emotional depth of the composition and its delivery. One viewer remarked that the song naturally brings the image of a loved one to mind when heard in a sincere emotional state. Another listener noted that Ankan’s work stands apart due to his distinctive lyrical structure, vocal expression, and articulation compared with other contemporary artists.
How the song was performed
Baraai Kore was not originally intended for performance by Ankan Kumar. The composition was initially developed for music producer Zahid Nirab, who was also expected to perform the vocals. The initial creative direction of the song was aligned with Nirab’s musical involvement.
However, Zahid Nirab later suggested that Ankan Kumar should perform the song, expressing the view that it would sound more effective in his voice. Following this recommendation, Ankan agreed to take on the vocal role. Around the same period, discussions were ongoing with the production team of film director Raihan Rafi while filming for Pressure Cooker was in progress. The song was subsequently incorporated into the film’s official soundtrack.
Musical journey and artistic focus
Ankan Kumar first came into public attention with the original song Up, released in 2022 through Hathirpool Sessions. This release marked his initial breakthrough in gaining wider recognition. He later received further attention with Long Distance Love, which was featured in Coke Studio Bangla.
Over a span of approximately three to four years, he has released around five to six original songs. Several of these works have received positive responses from listeners. While his music frequently explores romantic themes, Ankan has clarified that his focus is not limited to conventional love narratives. Instead, he explores layered emotional experiences within relationships.
These include themes such as emotional distance, separation, unfulfilled affection, and one-sided love. His creative intention is to reflect emotional realities that are often unspoken in everyday life, linking artistic expression with lived experience.
Ankan has also emphasised a preference for maintaining quality over quantity in his musical output. Rather than releasing songs frequently, he prioritises sound design, arrangement, and production quality. He considers consistency and technical refinement essential for sustaining a long-term presence in the music industry.
