A young man has been shot in a brazen daylight attack in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali district, leaving him hospitalised and prompting a police investigation into the incident.
The victim, identified as 27-year-old Faruk Hossain, is currently receiving treatment at the Noakhali 250-bed General Hospital. He was attacked on Tuesday morning (9 June) at around 8:30 a.m. in the Kalamiar Pool area of Hajipur Union, a boundary zone between Hajipur and Sharifpur villages.
Faruk, a mason by profession and son of Abul Kashem from Ward No. 1 of Sharifpur village under Hajipur Union, was reportedly standing by the roadside near Kalamiar shop when the incident occurred.
According to local accounts, a group of three to four assailants arrived at the scene in a CNG-run autorickshaw. Without any warning or opportunity for reaction, they opened fire on Faruk, discharging multiple rounds. He sustained gunshot injuries to his lower abdomen and knee and collapsed on the spot. The attackers fled immediately after the shooting, leaving the area in panic.
Residents rushed to the scene following the sound of gunfire and rescued the injured man. He was quickly transported to the Noakhali 250-bed General Hospital for emergency treatment.
Medical officials confirmed that although Faruk sustained serious injuries, his condition is currently stable. Resident Medical Officer Dr Rajib Ahmed Chowdhury stated that bullets struck his lower abdomen and knee, and the patient is under close observation.
Police from Begumganj Model Police Station arrived at the scene shortly after being informed. Authorities believe the attack may have involved locally made firearms, though the motive remains unclear at this stage. A manhunt has been launched to identify and apprehend those responsible.
