Police in Chuadanga have recovered 23 sacks of human hair valued at approximately 10 million BDT (one crore) following a high-stakes armed robbery on a regional highway in the Damurhuda upazila. The complete stolen consignment was successfully retrieved intact on Sunday morning from an abandoned location near the Chuadanga Circuit House after law enforcement launched a coordinated district-wide search operation.
The incident unfolded on Saturday afternoon when a group of local traders was transporting 400 kilograms of raw human hair to a specialised processing facility in the Karpasdanga area. The consignment had been purchased earlier from a wholesale market in Dhaka. Raw human hair serves as a lucrative commodity in international trade, where it is thoroughly cleaned, sorted, and processed before being exported overseas for the production of wigs, extensions, and fashion hairpieces.
After arriving in Chuadanga via a commercial courier service, the cargo was transferred onto a covered van owned by the local traders’ association for final delivery to the processing unit. However, as the transport vehicle traversed the Koshaghata area in Damurhuda, an armed gang of seven to eight individuals intercepted it along a secluded stretch of the road. Brandishing firearms and sharp weapons, the assailants forced the vehicle to a halt and held both the driver and the accompanying manager at gunpoint. Threats of violence quickly subdued the occupants, allowing the gang to unload all 23 sacks into their own escape vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Alerted to the daring heist, the District Detective Branch (DB) alongside teams from the local police station immediately mounted a joint investigation to track down the perpetrators and secure the valuable cargo. Law enforcement setup checkposts and conducted sweeping raids across key transit points throughout the district. Facing intense police pressure, the robbers abandoned the heavy cargo in the shadows of the Chuadanga Circuit House premises before fleeing into the night.
Officer-in-Charge of Damurhuda Model Police Station, Sheikh Mesbah Uddin, confirmed that officers recovered the entire consignment without any missing inventory in the early hours of Sunday. He added that the driver and manager of the covered van are currently being questioned to verify the exact timeline of events and rule out any potential inside involvement. Multiple specialized police units remain deployed across the region to track down, identify, and arrest the members of the armed syndicate.
