Five Deaths Recorded as Dengue Hospitalisations Rise Nationwide

The public health landscape across the country continues to grapple with vector-borne illness as health authorities confirm five additional fatalities linked to dengue over the past twenty-four hours. Alongside these tragic losses, hospital admissions have surged with hundreds of fresh cases requiring urgent medical intervention. The ongoing transmission cycle highlights the persistent seasonal threat posed by mosquito vectors, particularly during periods of favourable climatic conditions for mosquito breeding.

According to the regular epidemiological bulletin released by the Directorate General of Health Services on Sunday, the latest casualties are geographically distributed across specific regions. Within the single twenty-four-hour reporting window, four individuals lost their lives within the Dhaka division, including the capital metropolis, while another fatality was recorded in the Mymensingh division. These figures underscore the urban and regional concentrations where transmission rates remain elevated.

The cumulative toll for the current year reflects a substantial burden on healthcare facilities. Since the beginning of January, the national dengue death toll has climbed to 82. During the same period, clinical monitoring systems have registered a total of 28,991 confirmed infections nationwide. Medical professionals continue to admit incoming patients daily, maintaining active care protocols across various public and private medical centres.

Hospital bed occupancy rates remain under pressure as the caseload accumulates. Official data indicates that 1,951 dengue-positive patients are currently receiving medical treatment across various hospitals throughout the country. While a significant portion of patients recover and receive discharge clearances following standard inpatient care, the continuous influx of new patients keeps overall hospital occupancy at a notable level.

Public health specialists and entomologists continue to stress the critical importance of vector control measures. Communities are strongly advised to eliminate stagnant water sources around residential areas, use mosquito nets consistently, and seek immediate medical consultation upon experiencing persistent high fever or associated warning signs. Early hospitalisation remains a vital factor in preventing severe complications and ensuring favourable clinical outcomes for affected individuals.

What community-level vector control strategies are currently being prioritised to reduce mosquito breeding sites in urban areas?
