A gang of armed robbers targeted a prominent jewellery store in Dhakeshwari Market, Narayanganj, making off with a substantial quantity of gold and silver ornaments after assaulting the proprietor in broad daylight.
The raid occurred at approximately 12:30 pm on Friday in the Bandar area of Narayanganj district. A group of 10 to 12 unidentified men armed with sharp local weapons stormed the shop owned by local trader Debashish Dhali. Terrified shoppers in the bustling market watched on as the perpetrators overpowered the owner, threatening him with violence before ransacking the premises.
According to Mr Dhali, the assailants moved swiftly to secure their haul. They forcibly seized 3.5 bhoris (approximately 40.8 grammes) of gold from a customer who was present in the store at the time. The gang then breached the shop’s safe and display counters, looting an additional 4.5 bhoris (roughly 52.5 grammes) of gold jewellery alongside 200 to 300 bhoris (between 2.3 and 3.5 kilograms) of silver ornaments.
The incident has sparked widespread panic among local traders in the Dhakeshwari Market area, who expressed growing alarm over public safety and business security in the district. CCTV footage capturing the violent intruding gang quickly circulated on social media platforms shortly after the crime, triggering public outrage and demands for immediate police action.
Officers from the Bandar Police Station arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the alarm to gather evidence and launch a preliminary investigation. Senior law enforcement officials confirmed that forensic teams and detectives are analysing the digital video recordings to identify the individuals involved in the crime.
Jamal Uddin, Officer-in-Charge of Bandar Police Station, assured the community that a thorough investigation is underway. Police have initiated targeted drives across neighbouring areas to track down the gang, recover the stolen valuables, and bring the perpetrators to justice. Legal proceedings regarding the incident are currently being formalised.
