Bangladesh Betar Enlists 92 New Composers and Music Directors

Bangladesh Betar, the national public radio broadcaster, has formally approved and released a recommended list enlisting 92 individuals as accredited composers and music directors. The official list, announced on 27th July, incorporates several high-profile figures from the Bangladeshi music industry, including vocalists Alam Ara Minu, Mehreen Mahmud, Sania Sultana Liza, Sukanya Majumdar, Sumon Kalyan, and Rajesh Ghosh.

Founded in 1939 during the British era as All India Radio’s Dhaka station and later operating as Radio Pakistan, Bangladesh Betar has played a historic role in preserving and promoting the nation’s cultural identity. To maintain high artistic standards across its national and regional stations, the state broadcaster periodically conducts rigorous evaluations to recruit qualified talent. Official enlistment as a composer or music director allows artists to score, arrange, and direct original musical productions broadcast across the network’s extensive frequencies.

The inclusion of renowned singer Alam Ara Minu highlights the dual talents of many established performers. Although widely recognized for her vocal renditions, Minu has been quietly engaged in music direction and composition for many years. Expressing her joy regarding the official endorsement, she posted a message on social media celebrating the achievement and extending her warm wishes to all other artists featured on the published list.

Singer-songwriter Sajiya Sultana Putul also marked this accreditation as a major milestone in her two-decade career, which includes nearly fifteen years of active involvement in songwriting and musical arrangements. According to Putul, this formal recognition creates structured opportunities to compose works for other artists within the framework of state broadcasting. She observed:

“This achievement is immensely significant to me. I have worked continuously as a composer and music director for nearly fifteen years. Apart from my very first album, I have written, composed, and arranged every song across my subsequent albums and standalone singles. Over the years, many performers have expressed a desire to collaborate on projects, but circumstances never quite aligned. Now, with this formal enlistment through Bangladesh Betar, I can officially begin this chapter and create music for other vocalists. I am deeply thrilled about what lies ahead in my creative path.”

This strategic enlistment of 92 music professionals is expected to revitalise Bangladesh Betar’s musical archive, fostering creative synergy between seasoned industry practitioners and state-funded broadcasting platforms.
