The latest edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) concluded with Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack announcing its Team of the Tournament, in which Bangladesh’s emerging fast bowler Nahid Rana earned a place following a highly efficient if brief campaign for Peshawar Zalmi.
Despite featuring in only five matches, the right-arm pacer made a significant impact, claiming nine wickets across his appearances. His bowling average hovered close to 10, while he also maintained a disciplined economy rate, underlining both his wicket-taking ability and control in limited opportunities.
Rana’s selection is particularly notable given the competitive nature of the PSL, which features a blend of established international stars and high-performing domestic players. His inclusion in the elite XI reflects not only his statistical output but also the impression he made with pace, discipline, and adaptability under pressure.
Rana’s spell in the tournament was marked by consistent breakthroughs. Operating primarily in the powerplay and middle overs, he utilised raw pace alongside variations in length to unsettle top-order batters. His short-ball strategy and sharply directed yorkers proved effective, particularly in restricting scoring opportunities during key phases of the innings.
A brief interruption in his PSL stint occurred due to international duty with Bangladesh during their series against New Zealand in Dhaka. However, prior to his temporary departure, Rana had already delivered strong performances in four matches. He later returned to Pakistan for the final stages of the tournament, including the concluding fixtures, where he continued to contribute meaningfully to his side’s bowling attack.
The PSL Team of the Tournament is led by Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam, who was appointed skipper of the side. The XI features a balanced mix of top-order stability, all-round depth, and pace variation.
| Player | Role | Team/Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Babar Azam | Batter (Captain) | Peshawar Zalmi |
| Sahibzada Farhan | Opener | Islamabad-based franchise |
| Kusal Mendis | Wicketkeeper-Batter | Sri Lanka |
| Shan Masood | Top-order Batter | Multan Sultans |
| Usman Khan | Batter | Middle order |
| Shadab Khan | All-rounder | Spin-bowling option |
| Aaron Hardie | All-rounder | Pace-bowling support |
| Hunain Shah | Fast Bowler | Emerging pacer |
| Mohammad Ali | Fast Bowler | Right-arm pace |
| Sufiyan Muqeem | Left-arm Spinner | Spin option |
| Nahid Rana | Fast Bowler | Bangladesh |
Rana’s presence in the XI highlights the growing recognition of Bangladesh’s pace bowling talent on franchise cricket platforms. Although his opportunities were limited in terms of matches played, his efficiency and wicket-taking consistency were sufficient to earn him a place among the tournament’s standout performers.
His PSL performance is expected to strengthen his case for future franchise opportunities and further international exposure, particularly in high-intensity T20 environments where pace and variation remain critical assets.
