Football enthusiasts across South Asia have received welcome news as the dates and host venue for the SAFF Championship 2026 have been officially confirmed. Following an eight-year hiatus, Bangladesh will once again host the region’s flagship international football tournament. The prestigious competition is scheduled to take place in Dhaka from 4 November to 17 November 2026.
As the flagship competition organised by the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF), the championship represents the pinnacle of international football in the region. All member associations from across South Asia are expected to field their national teams, setting the stage for a highly competitive fortnight of football.
Preparations for the marquee event are already underway. Organisers have confirmed that the official logo launch ceremony will be hosted in Dhaka on 25 July. Shortly thereafter, the official group stage draw will take place in Thimphu, Bhutan, on 1 August, determining the match-ups and groups for the participating nations.
Expressing his delight at the announcement, SAFF General Secretary Purushottam Kattel highlighted the deep connection between the tournament and its passionate fanbase across the subcontinent. He noted that over the years, the championship has consistently delivered unforgettable moments for football lovers throughout South Asia.
Reflecting on the timing of the announcement, Kattel pointed out that launching the tournament shortly after the conclusion of the FIFA World Cup 2026 creates an extraordinary sense of excitement for regional sports enthusiasts. He emphasised that returning to Bangladesh—where public enthusiasm for football continues to grow rapidly—makes the upcoming edition particularly thrilling. The federation expressed confidence that Bangladesh would deliver a memorable and seamlessly executed event, leaving a lasting impression on players and supporters alike.
The 2026 edition marks the 15th iteration of the SAFF Championship. Bangladesh last hosted the regional showcase in 2018, making this homecoming a significant moment for domestic sports fans. SAFF officials indicated that a series of promotional activities, schedule updates, and ticketing details will be unveiled in the coming weeks as the official countdown to the tournament begins.
