The Bangladesh national cricket team is scheduled to play a Test match in England after a 17-year hiatus from the longest format of the game on English soil. According to the strategic plans of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the fixture is slated to take place towards the end of May 2027. This solitary Test match forms an integral part of England’s competitive preparation ahead of their highly anticipated Ashes series against Australia.
Whilst the official venue for the historic fixture has not yet been finalised, the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London is currently under prominent consideration as the primary candidate. The definitive selection of the ground heavily depends on the venue scheduling for the 2027 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final. Administrative assessments indicate that if the prestigious WTC Final is hosted at The Oval, the ECB intends to organise the single Test match between England and Bangladesh at Lord’s.
Bangladesh last engaged in a Test series in England in 2010. During that bilateral tour, the visitors competed in a two-match series; the opening encounter was staged at Lord’s, whilst the subsequent final match took place at Old Trafford in Manchester.
Reclaiming the opportunity to play in challenging English conditions after 17 years represents a major milestone for the South Asian nation. It provides an essential platform for the team to demonstrate their red-ball capabilities against a top-tier opponent in foreign conditions.
The year 2027 is shaping up to be exceptionally demanding for the England men’s cricket team. Prior to welcoming Bangladesh for the home Test in May, the English side will travel to Bangladesh in February 2027 to play two Test matches. Following that tour, they will head to Australia in March to participate in a historic, one-off Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) marking the 150th anniversary of Test cricket.
Upon concluding their commemorative tour, England will return home to face Bangladesh in the single Test before commencing a grueling five-Test Ashes series against traditional rivals Australia.
The comprehensive summer schedule for the 2027 home season is expected to be officially released by the ECB in July. However, despite the absence of an officially confirmed itinerary, the prospect of this overseas Test has already generated substantial enthusiasm within the Bangladeshi cricketing community.
