A Bangladeshi woman has succumbed to her injuries in hospital following a catastrophic hotel fire in the Malviya Nagar sector of South New Delhi, India. The victim passed away whilst receiving medical treatment on Wednesday, 10 June. Authorities confirmed that her death has raised the total number of fatalities from the incident to 23.
The blaze occurred on 4 June at the “Flourish Stage Bed and Breakfast” hotel, located in the Hauz Rani area of Malviya Nagar. The fire spread rapidly through the premises, resulting in the immediate deaths of 21 individuals at the scene. Numerous other occupants sustained severe burn injuries and smoke inhalation, requiring urgent hospitalisation across various medical facilities in the capital.
The casualty figures have risen progressively since the initial incident. Last week, a Nigerian national, who had also suffered extensive burns during the conflagration, died in hospital. That fatality brought the official death toll to 22. The demise of the Bangladeshi national on Wednesday represents the latest fatality linked directly to the disaster.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), Anant Mittal, issued an official statement confirming the latest casualty statistics:
“Unfortunately, one more person has passed away during treatment. With this, the total number of fatalities has risen to 23. The person who died yesterday is a Bangladeshi citizen.”
The High Commission of Bangladesh in New Delhi formally verified the death of their citizen on Thursday, 11 June. Diplomatic officials stated that they were officially notified of the woman’s passing on Thursday morning through verified communications received from both the Delhi Police and hospital administrators. The High Commission is currently coordinating with local authorities regarding the necessary legal and administrative formalities.
The progression of documented fatalities resulting from the Hauz Rani hotel fire is detailed in the table below:
