Barcelona maintained their impressive form in the UEFA Champions League with a commanding 4-1 victory over Galatasaray away from home. Despite falling behind early in the match, Hansi Flick’s side responded with four goals to secure their second consecutive win in the league phase. The result also extended Barcelona’s winning run to 10 matches across all competitions at the start of the season.
The match took place late on Tuesday night, 13 October, with Barcelona dominating possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities. The Catalan side controlled 71 per cent of the ball and attempted 22 shots, 11 of which were on target. Galatasaray, by contrast, managed only five attempts, with three finding the target.
Barcelona began the match on the front foot, looking to impose their attacking style from the opening minutes. Dani Olmo created an early opportunity in the seventh minute, but his effort was saved by the Galatasaray goalkeeper. Anthony Gordon also came close in the 16th minute after controlling a lofted pass from Pedri with his chest before shooting. However, the goalkeeper dealt comfortably with the attempt. Another effort from Olmo, this time a header, went wide.
Against the run of play, Galatasaray took the lead in the 28th minute. Rafael Leão delivered the ball into a dangerous area, allowing Alexei Batrakov to shoot. His effort struck Barcelona defender João Cancelo and changed direction before finding the back of the net, leaving the visitors trailing.
The hosts appeared to have doubled their advantage three minutes later, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Barcelona continued to press forward, refusing to allow the setback to disrupt their attacking rhythm.
Their persistence paid off just before half-time. In the 43rd minute, Cancelo brought Barcelona level with a well-placed finish. After Olmo attempted a shot, Gordon allowed the ball to run past him, and the Portuguese defender arrived from behind to send it into the far corner. The teams went into the break with the score at 1-1.
Barcelona emerged from half-time with renewed intensity and quickly took control of the contest. They scored three times within the opening 20 minutes of the second half, effectively putting the match beyond Galatasaray’s reach.
Fermín López put Barcelona ahead in the 50th minute. Following a corner, the ball came back into play and Lamine Yamal delivered a cross into the penalty area. López rose to head the ball home from close range, giving the visitors a 2-1 lead.
Just three minutes later, Barcelona extended their advantage through Gordon, who scored his first Champions League goal for the club. Pedri supplied the ball to Yamal, who kept it in play near the goal line before cutting it back to his team-mate. Gordon made no mistake with his finish, putting Barcelona 3-1 ahead.
The visitors continued to exploit gaps in the home side’s defence, and their fourth goal arrived in the 65th minute. German forward Karim Adeyemi capitalised on a loose ball that deflected off Gabriel Jesus. Without slowing his movement, Adeyemi struck a low shot into the far corner to complete Barcelona’s scoring.
Barcelona had opportunities to increase their lead further in the closing stages. Adeyemi’s volley from a Yamal cross was cleared off the goal line by Galatasaray’s Roland Sallai. Later, Gabriel Jesus attempted to score from another pass by Yamal, but goalkeeper Ugurcan Çakır produced a save to deny him.
Although Yamal did not score, he played a decisive role in the victory by providing two assists. His movement and creativity helped Barcelona repeatedly break through Galatasaray’s defensive lines, while Pedri and Olmo also contributed to the team’s attacking play.
The victory strengthened Barcelona’s position in the Champions League league-phase standings. They have now scored nine goals in their opening two matches, having beaten Feyenoord 5-1 in their first fixture. With two wins from two games, they have maintained a perfect record in the competition.
Barcelona’s response after conceding the opening goal highlighted their attacking depth and ability to recover from difficult situations. Their three-goal burst after the interval demonstrated how effectively they could turn possession into clear scoring opportunities.
For Flick’s side, the convincing away victory provides further encouragement as they continue their Champions League campaign. Maintaining this level of performance will be crucial as they seek to remain among the leading contenders in Europe’s premier club competition.
