Barcelona have secured the long-term future of Egyptian forward Hamza Abdelkarim, extending the 19-year-old’s contract with the club until 30 June 2030.
The agreement underlines Barcelona’s confidence in a young striker who has progressed rapidly through the club’s youth system and has already made the step into senior football. Abdelkarim is scheduled to formally sign the new contract with Barcelona president Joan Laporta at the club’s offices on 15 September. He will then face the media at the club’s commercial offices, according to a statement from Barcelona.
Abdelkarim first attracted attention during his development in Egyptian football, where his goalscoring ability quickly marked him out as a promising forward. His reputation for finding the net earned him the nickname ‘the Egyptian Haaland’, a comparison that has followed him as his career has progressed.
After moving into Barcelona’s youth set-up, he continued to make an impression. One of his most notable performances came in a 9-0 victory over Montcada, when he scored a hat-trick. The emphatic result also helped Barcelona’s Under-19 side secure the Division d’Honor title.
His performances at youth level led to a more permanent commitment from Barcelona in the summer of 2026. The club subsequently gave him an opportunity to work with the senior squad during pre-season under head coach Hansi Flick.
Abdelkarim made the most of that opportunity. He scored four goals during the pre-season programme, finishing as Barcelona’s leading scorer during the preparations. The progression from youth football to senior football then reached another significant stage on 31 August, when Abdelkarim made his first-team debut against Rayo Vallecano at Spotify Camp Nou.
That appearance represented a rapid rise for a player who had only recently been developing within the club’s academy. Barcelona’s decision to extend his contract now provides further recognition of that progress and gives the Egyptian forward a long-term future at the Catalan club.
At 19, Abdelkarim remains at an early stage of his senior career. His performances in the youth ranks and during pre-season have created expectations, but regular first-team football presents a different challenge.
