Brutal Double Murder in Barlekha: Chhatra League Leader’s Father and Uncle Killed, Several Injured

A horrific double murder in Barlekha Upazila of Moulvibazar district has left the local community in a state of profound grief, panic, and anxiety. Jamal Uddin and Abdul Kaiyum—the father and uncle, respectively, of Mehedi Hasan Kabir, former Deputy Publicity Secretary of the Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Moulvibazar district unit—were brutally killed in their own home.

The incident took place in BOC Keshirgul village under the Kataltali area of Dakshinbagh North Union in Barlekha Upazila. According to local sources, a short while ago, miscreants armed with sharp weapons launched a sudden attack on Jamal Uddin and Abdul Kaiyum. Both sustained critical injuries and died on the spot. It has been reported that two others were also seriously injured in the attack.

Multiple sources claim that the attack was led by Kamal Hossain, a former President of the Keshirgul Ward Shibir and current Jamaat-e-Islami leader. Citing locals, the names of those allegedly involved in the attack include Alim Uddin, Faisal, Ohid, Kamal, Ahad, Aziz, Jomir, Harun, Shimul, Haider, Nanu, Ali, Jabbar, Suhel, Kashem, Kuddus, Dudu, and others. However, these allegations have not yet been officially confirmed by law enforcement agencies.

Extreme panic has spread throughout the area following this brutal killing, and the families of the deceased are in deep mourning. The exact motive behind such a horrific event has not been confirmed yet.

Upon receiving the news, the police arrived at the scene. Local residents have demanded the immediate arrest of the killers and exemplary punishment through the legal process.

Notably, Mehedi Hasan Kabir previously served as the Deputy Publicity Secretary of the Moulvibazar District Chhatra League. This tragic murder of his family members has sparked intense reactions in both political circles and local society.
