Bus Crash Claims Two Young Lives in Bhanga

Two young men were killed after a passenger bus struck their motorcycle in Bhanga, Faridpur, on Thursday morning.

The deceased were identified as 17-year-old Kawsar Ahmed Sardar Ratul, who was riding the motorcycle, and 20-year-old Md Raju Ahmed, who was travelling as a passenger. The accident occurred at around 11.30am in the Bhanga Interchange area of the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway.

Ratul was the son of Shahadat Sardar of Jandi village in Tujarpar Union under Bhanga upazila. Raju was the son of Khokon Matubbar of Fukurhati village in the same upazila.

According to local residents and police, the two were travelling on a motorcycle along the expressway when a Golden Line Paribahan bus travelling from Faridpur towards Dhaka struck them while both vehicles were in the same lane.

The impact sent the motorcycle tumbling onto the road. It was badly damaged in the collision, while both riders suffered critical injuries.

People nearby rushed to the scene after the crash and helped with the rescue operation. Police and Fire Service personnel later arrived and assisted in taking the injured men to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex for initial treatment.

As their condition was considered serious, the two were subsequently transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for further treatment. Their condition deteriorated there, prompting doctors and relatives to arrange for them to be taken to Dhaka for more advanced medical care.

However, the two injured men died on the way to Dhaka.

The incident was confirmed by Azadur Rahman, a sub-inspector at Bhanga Highway Police Station. He said the bodies of the two victims, along with the motorcycle involved in the accident, had been brought under police custody.

The bodies will be handed over to their families after the necessary legal procedures are completed, police said.

The bus reportedly left the scene after the collision. Authorities are taking legal steps in connection with the accident, while further action will depend on the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The accident once again highlights the risks faced by motorcycle riders on major highways, where passenger buses and other heavy vehicles often travel at considerably higher speeds. The Bhanga Interchange is also a significant transport point connecting routes towards Dhaka and other parts of the country, making careful lane discipline and responsible driving particularly important.

Police are expected to examine the circumstances of the collision as part of the legal process. Details regarding the bus and its driver will be subject to the investigation.
