Clandestine Meth Factory Exposed Under Paint Unit Cover In Keraniganj

In a major law enforcement breakthrough, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-2 has uncovered a clandestine narcotics manufacturing facility operating under the guise of a paint factory in Keraniganj, Dhaka. Officers seized 19,000 methamphetamine pills, known locally as Yaba, alongside substantial quantities of raw chemical precursors and tableting equipment. The unit’s owner, 28-year-old Nasir Hossain, was taken into custody during the operation.

The details of the raid were disclosed during a press briefing held on Monday afternoon, 3 August, outside the facility located in the Madinanagar area of Shuphadya Union, South Keraniganj. Additional Deputy Inspector General Najmul Hasan, Commanding Officer of RAB-2, presented the findings to reporters.

The raid followed intelligence gathered from a prior arrest on Sunday, when RAB officers intercepted a suspect named Faisal Islam Mithu in the Bochila area of Mohammadpur, Dhaka, recovering 11,000 Yaba pills from his possession. Interrogation of Mithu led investigators to the second floor of Madina Complex in South Keraniganj. There, operating under the legitimate commercial front of “Nasir Chemical Industries,” officers discovered a fully functioning narcotics laboratory.

Initial questioning revealed that Nasir Hossain had purchased the chemical unit a decade ago, systematically using it as a cover to produce synthetic drugs while evading detection. The manufactured pills were subsequently distributed across the capital and various regional markets through an established criminal network.

RAB officials confirmed that formal charges under the Narcotics Control Act are currently being prepared against the detained suspect prior to his transfer to local police custody. Operations remain ongoing to identify and apprehend additional members of the syndicate.

The discovery follows a similar raid conducted last Thursday by RAB-10 in the Arshinagar area of Shakta Union, Keraniganj. That operation led to the dismantling of another illicit drug manufacturing unit, where officers seized 1,968 Yaba pills, raw materials, and production machinery, leading to the arrest of four suspects.
