The operation took place on Sunday afternoon, 25 October 2026, along the Dhaka-Rangpur highway in the Naimile Jamalpur area of Shahjahanpur Upazila. Acting on specific intelligence, a team from the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) intercepted a passenger bus traveling from Dhaka to Bogura.

The suspects have been identified as Sohag Mridha, aged 31, and his wife Sharmin Khanam, aged 25. Although originally hailing from Alfadanga Upazila in Faridpur district, the couple currently resides in the Shah Ali area of Mirpur, Dhaka. Official records indicate that Sohag Mridha already faces multiple pending narcotics cases.

Detailing the operation, Jillur Rahman, Deputy Director of the DNC’s Bogura District Office, stated that officers received precise tip-offs regarding the smuggling attempt. Information revealed that a woman travelling with a newborn had concealed a substantial shipment of Yaba tablets beneath ankle guards strapped around her lower legs.

Following up on the intelligence, a DNC team led by Rahman positioned themselves along the highway and intercepted an RK Travels passenger coach. During the search, officers approached the couple occupying seats F-1 and F-2. When questioned, neither passenger could produce valid bus tickets.

Subsequent searches conducted by female officers led to the discovery of 39 packets wrapped in black adhesive tape, hidden within two white fabric ankle guards worn by Sharmin. Each packet contained 200 Yaba tablets, bringing the total seizure to 7,800 pills weighing approximately 780 grams.

Law enforcement officers seized the contraband along with two mobile phones and the ankle guards used to conceal the drugs. Following the recovery, Inspector Md Shamsul Alam of the DNC filed a formal case under the Narcotics Control Act at Shahjahanpur Police Station. The suspects, along with the seized evidence, have been handed over to local police for further investigation and judicial proceedings.
