In a horrifying turn of events, local residents in Dhaka’s Adabar area discovered the severed remains of an unidentified woman packed inside a floating schoolbag on Saturday afternoon. The bag was spotted drifting along the Hakkarpar canal off Road 10 around 5:00 pm, prompting alarmed onlookers to immediately notify the authorities.
Upon arriving at the scene, police recovered the schoolbag and unveiled its grim contents: a woman’s head, torso, and both arms. Lower limbs were notably missing from the bag, raising immediate suspicions of a brutal homicide aimed at concealing the victim’s identity and disposing of the evidence piecemeal across the city’s waterways.
Officers from the Adabar Police Station swiftly secured the area and transported the body parts to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for a detailed post-mortem examination. Forensic experts have been deployed to collect fingerprint samples and retrieve vital biometric data, which investigators hope will yield a match against national identification databases.
Speaking on the investigation, Adabar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Jahidul Islam confirmed that law enforcement agencies have launched a thorough inquiry into the murder. Officers are currently reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from surrounding establishments along Road 10 and adjoining alleys to trace the movement of persons who may have dumped the bag into the canal. Local intelligence networks have also been activated, and neighbouring police stations are cross-referencing recent missing person reports in an urgent bid to establish the victim’s identity and track down those responsible for the gruesome crime.
