MYMENSINGH — Police in Phulpur, Mymensingh, have recovered the partially decomposed body of a 17-year-old youth from a shallow grave, twenty-eight days after he mysteriously vanished from his home.
The victim, identified as Rashedul Islam, was a local brick kiln labourer and the son of Shahjahan Miah, a resident of Krishnamaheshpatti village. According to family sources, Rashedul left his residence on the evening of 10 August and failed to return. Following his sudden disappearance, his family lodged a general diary (GD) with the local police station to initiate an investigation into his whereabouts.
The case took a sinister turn shortly after the report was filed when the victims’ family received phone calls demanding a ransom for his safe return. Investigators tracked the mobile signals and operational leads, eventually arresting Md Jasim Miah in the Shyamganj Kokail area of Netrokona district.
Upon interrogation, Jasim confessed to his involvement in the abduction and disclosed the precise location where the body had been concealed. Acting on his detailed confession, a police team conducted a targeted operation on Sunday, 6 September, at an isolated plot known locally as ‘Garor Bhita’ in Chandrapur village, situated within the Bowla Union of Phulpur sub-district. Law enforcement officers excavated the site in the presence of local magistrates and unearthed the teenager’s partially decomposed remains.
Alongside Jasim Miah, the authorities have apprehended two other suspects believed to be directly connected to the crime: Mozzammel Hossain and Rafiq Miah, both hailing from Kokail village in Shyamganj.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Phulpur Police Station, Md Firoz Hossain, confirmed that all three suspects are currently in custody. He stated that the body has been sent to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy to ascertain the exact cause and time of death. Police are completing the necessary legal formalities before producing the accused individuals in court, whilst continuing investigations to determine whether additional accomplices were involved in the premeditated kidnap and murder.
