In a coordinated law enforcement operation spanning the capital, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 419 individuals across various divisions over a 24-hour period. The Mirpur Division recorded the highest number of arrests during the drive, with officers apprehending 96 suspects.
Details of the extensive law enforcement operation were confirmed on Monday, 3 August, by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Niaz Mehdi from the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division.
The targeted operations were executed across all eight crime divisions of the DMP as well as the Detective Branch (DB). The territorial breakdown of arrests includes 28 individuals in Ramna Division, 43 in Lalbagh, 46 in Wari, 39 in Motijheel, 66 in Tejgaon, 96 in Mirpur, 48 in Gulshan, and 44 in Uttara. In addition, detectives from the Detective Branch detained nine suspects during specialized operations.
Law enforcement officers recovered a substantial quantity of illicit goods, narcotics, communications gear, and technical equipment during the raids. Among the seized items were 28 illegal VoIP machines, 4,846 mobile SIM cards from various telecommunications providers, 21 mobile phones, 14 laptops, 12 laptop chargers, 16 data connector machines, 52 cable connectors, a power supply unit, a CCTV camera, and various other electrical accessories.
In addition to illegal telecommunications equipment, officers confiscated narcotics and financial assets, including 14 kilograms of cannabis, 914 Yaba tablets, 350.8 grams of heroin, 26 bottles of foreign liquor, a private vehicle, and 209,700 taka in cash.
DMP officials indicated that the raids were conducted across multiple neighbourhoods under various police station jurisdictions to target organized crime, illegal VoIP operations, and drug trafficking networks. The arrested individuals were taken into custody along with the seized evidence, and formal legal proceedings are currently underway across the respective police stations.
