Dhaka Police Arrest 460 in 24-Hour Crackdown

A total of 460 people were arrested during routine operations carried out across the capital over the past 24 hours, as the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) continued its regular campaign against crime and narcotics. During the same period, law enforcement officers filed 49 cases in connection with various alleged offences.

The figures were released by the DMP in a press statement issued on Monday, outlining the results of coordinated operations conducted across different policing divisions of the capital.

According to the statement, the highest number of arrests was made in the Mirpur Division, where 126 individuals were taken into custody. Tejgaon Division recorded the second-highest number of arrests with 62, followed by Wari Division with 57 and Motijheel Division with 56.

Police also arrested 47 people in Uttara Division, 39 in Ramna Division, 34 in Gulshan Division and 33 in Lalbagh Division. An additional six suspects were detained by the Detective Branch (DB) during separate intelligence-led operations.

Alongside the arrests, officers seized a substantial quantity of suspected illegal drugs and other items believed to be linked to criminal activity. The recovered items included 12,084 yaba tablets, 120 grams of cannabis, 100 bottles of Eskaf syrup and Tk 4,800 in cash.

The operations were conducted across multiple police station jurisdictions in the capital as part of the DMP’s ongoing efforts to curb narcotics trafficking, street crime and other criminal activities. Police said the raids targeted individuals suspected of involvement in offences ranging from drug-related crimes to other violations of the law.

The DMP regularly conducts such drives throughout Dhaka in an effort to maintain public order, enhance security and disrupt criminal networks. Similar operations are carried out on a routine basis by local police stations and specialised units based on intelligence information, public complaints and ongoing investigations.

Authorities did not disclose the specific charges against each of those arrested, but confirmed that legal proceedings have been initiated in accordance with existing laws. The individuals taken into custody will face further investigation, while the seized narcotics and other recovered items are expected to be produced as evidence in the respective cases.

Police said the campaign against crime and illegal drugs would continue across the capital as part of their routine law enforcement activities, with additional operations to be carried out whenever necessary to ensure public safety and uphold the rule of law.
