Two motorcyclists were killed and another seriously injured after a head-on collision with a trolley vehicle in Sharsha upazila of Jessore on Monday morning, police and local witnesses said.
The fatal accident took place at Salamer Mor in Goga village, a junction along the Rudrapur–Goga paved road, where the motorcycle reportedly collided head-on with an oncoming trolley travelling from the opposite direction.
The deceased have been identified as Midul Hasan (Nahid) and Sohag Hossain (Usha), both residents of Daulatpur village under Benapole Port Police Station. The third rider, Rubel Hossain, who is also from the same village, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for emergency treatment.
According to eyewitnesses and local residents, the three men were travelling together on a motorcycle towards Rudrapur during the morning. As they approached Salamer Mor, the motorcycle collided directly with a trolley coming from the opposite direction. The impact was severe, leaving the motorcycle badly mangled.
Midul Hasan and Sohag Hossain died at the scene from the force of the crash. Local residents rushed to assist the victims and rescued the injured Rubel Hossain before transporting him to a nearby hospital for medical care. His current condition has not been officially disclosed.
Police from Sharsha Police Station arrived shortly after receiving reports of the incident. Officers recovered the bodies of the two victims and initiated the necessary legal procedures.
Officer-in-Charge Shaminul Haque of Sharsha Police Station confirmed the deaths and said the trolley involved in the collision has been taken into police custody. He added that no formal complaint had been lodged in connection with the accident as of Monday.
Road accidents involving motorcycles continue to be a recurring concern in many parts of Bangladesh, particularly on regional highways and rural roads where slow-moving agricultural vehicles, including tractors and trolleys, often share the same carriageway with faster-moving traffic. Such mixed road use, combined with narrow road sections and limited traffic management at busy intersections, can significantly increase the risk of serious collisions.
Police are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash as part of their investigation, including the movements of both vehicles before the collision. Authorities will determine whether any negligence or traffic violations contributed to the incident before deciding on any further legal action.
