Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have detained 492 individuals across the capital in a sweeping 24-hour drive aimed at curbing crime and maintaining law and order. According to an official press release issued by Deputy Commissioner Md Akhtar Hossain of the DMP Media and Public Relations Division on Tuesday, 29 September, police personnel launched coordinated raids across multiple divisions, culminating in the filing of 29 new cases.
The extensive operation spanned all major administrative divisions within the capital. The Tejgaon and Mirpur divisions recorded the highest numbers of arrests, detaining 105 and 106 suspects respectively. Meanwhile, the Wari division apprehended 69 individuals, followed closely by Motijheel with 61 and Lalbagh with 45. Police units in the Gulshan and Uttara divisions secured 42 and 35 arrests respectively, while the Ramna division detained 26 suspects. Specialized units also contributed to the operation, with the Detective Branch (DB) arresting two individuals and the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit apprehending one.

Alongside the arrests, law enforcement officers recovered significant quantities of narcotics and contraband items during the raids. Seized items included four kilograms of cannabis, 4,533 yaba tablets, 75 bottles of Phensedyl, and 11 mobile phones linked to illicit activities. In addition to the contraband, officers successfully rescued one victim during the operations, though officials have withheld further details regarding the victim’s identity and circumstances to safeguard the integrity of the ongoing investigations.
These drives form part of ongoing efforts by urban law enforcement to tackle street crime, illegal drug distribution networks, and public safety threats in densely populated areas. Officers conducted searches across key residential and commercial areas, targeting locations known for illicit trade and suspicious gatherings.
Legal proceedings against all 492 arrestees are currently underway, with local police stations processing individual files, evidence, and charge sheets. The DMP reiterated its commitment to sustaining these proactive measures to ensure the security of residents throughout the metropolitan region.
