An intensive two-day workshop titled “Bancassurance in Bangladesh: Regulatory, Operational & Sales Readiness” has concluded at the University of Dhaka. The educational event aimed to strengthen structural coordination between the banking and insurance sectors, expand customer-focused financial services, and enhance the professional capacity of corporate officials involved in regional bancassurance operations.
The workshop was jointly organised by the Master of Professional Banking (MPB) Programme of the Department of Banking and Insurance, Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka, and the Bankers Club of Bangladesh Limited. Running from 10 to 11 July, the sessions took place at the Professor Dr Abdullah Farouk Multipurpose Hall, situated on the ninth floor of the Faculty of Business Studies.
The inaugural ceremony commenced at 3:00 pm on Friday. Professor Dr Mahmood Osman Imam, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, attended the event as the Chief Guest. Professor Dr Shahidul Islam Zahid, Chairman of the Department of Banking and Insurance, was present as the Special Guest, whilst Professor Dr Md Main Uddin of the same department attended as the Guest of Honour.
Key administrative figures also attended the launch, including Md Rashed Akter, President of the Bankers Club of Bangladesh Limited, Professor Dr Abdullah Al Mahmud, Coordinator of the MPB Programme, and Mr Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman (Aryan), the Learning Development Secretary of the Bankers Club of Bangladesh Limited. During their opening remarks, the speakers highlighted the significance of bancassurance in advancing financial inclusion across Bangladesh. They emphasised using established banking networks to broaden public access to reliable, consumer-friendly insurance products.
The academic structure of the workshop comprised eight specialised training sessions spread across the two days. The first day focused heavily on the foundational bancassurance landscape in Bangladesh, detailing the joint regulatory frameworks of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) and Bangladesh Bank. Facilitators led reviews on partnership models, commercial agreement structuring, and selecting appropriate insurance products for different consumer demographics.
The second day shifted towards operational execution, covering technology integration between banks and insurers, Know Your Customer (KYC) protocols, and anti-money-laundering compliance. Instructors also addressed practical mechanisms such as premium collection, claims processing, risk management, consumer protection, and the prevention of mis-selling to ensure sustainable growth.
A diverse group of experts served as resource persons, including faculty members from the University of Dhaka, senior officials from Bangladesh Bank, and senior executives from prominent commercial banks and insurance institutions. The specialist panel included Professor Dr Md Main Uddin, Mohammad Ashfaqur Rahman, S. M. Ibrahim Hossain, Shubasish Barua, Mohammad Mahbub Hossain, Professor Dr Hasina Sheykh, Md Rashed Akter, and Subir Kumar Kundu.
To balance theoretical frameworks with practical application, the programme incorporated regional case studies, interactive group discussions, role-play exercises, and peer-learning presentations. Participants were equipped with functional toolkits, such as a Bancassurance Launch Checklist, a KPI Dashboard, and a Product Suitability Matrix. According to the organisers, official certificates will be distributed to successful participants on 17 July 2026.
