A tragic collision on the Dhaka-Bhanga Highway in Faridpur’s Bhanga Upazila has claimed the lives of two teenagers travelling by motorcycle.
The fatal accident occurred on Thursday morning beneath the underpass of the Bhanga Interchange area, a busy junction connecting major regional routes. Local authorities and highway police responded swiftly to the scene following emergency calls from eyewitnesses.
The victims have been identified as seventeen-year-old Kawsar Ahmed Ratul, who was driving the motorcycle, and his friend, eighteen-year-old Raju Matubber. Ratul was the son of expatriate Shahadat Sardar from Jandi village within the Tuzarpur Union, while Matubber was the son of Kawsar Matubber from Phukurhati village in the Nurullaganj Union.
According to Sub-Inspector Sohel of the Bhanga Highway Police Station, a passenger bus operated by the ‘Golden Line’ transport service struck the motorcycle from behind. The vehicle, travelling from Dhaka toward Faridpur, hit the smaller transport as it navigated the interchange area. The impact was severe, crushing the motorcycle beyond recognition and leaving both riders with critical injuries.
Police officers rushed to the site to coordinate rescue operations. The injured teenagers were initially transported to the local Bhanga hospital for emergency medical intervention. However, due to the critical nature of their wounds, medical staff advised immediate transfer to a specialised facility in Dhaka. Both youths succumbed to their injuries while en route to the capital.
Following the completion of formal inquest reports, police handed the bodies over to the respective families for burial rites. Authorities have launched an investigation and are actively working to intercept the implicated bus, which fled the scene immediately following the collision.
Road safety advocates have repeatedly raised concerns regarding high-speed traffic along the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway corridor, urging stricter enforcement of speed limits and improved monitoring at interchanges to protect vulnerable road users such as motorcyclists and pedestrians.
