A 30-year-old disabled fisherman lost his life after being severely beaten by a mob in the Ulail area under Savar Municipality. The fatal incident occurred on Monday evening in the Karnapara vicinity, near Ulail Kudghat. Law enforcement authorities acted swiftly, arresting two suspects on Tuesday afternoon in connection with the attack.
The victim was identified as Abul Khair Patwari, a physical disability sufferer and fisherman by profession. He hailed from Dasadi village in the Kalyanpur union under Chandpur Sadar Police Station, Chandpur district, and was the son of Lokman Patwari.
According to police accounts, garage owner Nuruzzaman and several associates targeted Abul Khair on Monday evening, subjecting him to a violent physical assault in the Kudghat area. As Khair collapsed with critical injuries, the perpetrators transported him to the Savar Upazila Health Complex to avoid immediate backlash.
Attending doctors at the emergency unit examined Khair upon arrival and declared him dead. Realising the severity of the situation, the individuals who brought the victim abandoned his body at the medical facility and fled the premises. Hospital staff alerted the authorities shortly afterwards.
Savar Model Police Station officers recovered the body and subsequently transferred it to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue in Dhaka for a detailed post-mortem examination. Police confirmed that the exact motive behind the mob violence remains unclear and is currently under investigation.
Investigating Officer Inspector Nur Mohammad of Savar Model Police Station stated that a murder case was initially registered against unnamed individuals. Following preliminary enquiries and intelligence gathering, police launched raids across the locality, arresting two prime suspects: garage owner Nuruzzaman and a rickshaw driver named Sobuj. Law enforcement officials confirmed that interrogation of the arrested suspects is ongoing to ascertain the circumstances leading to the fatal attack and to identify others involved in the violence.
