The government has executed a significant administrative reshuffle within Bangladesh Police, transferring and reassigning 14 senior officers holding the ranks of Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Additional DIG, and Superintendent of Police (SP).
The reassignments were formalised on Tuesday, 21 July, through three separate notifications issued by the Police-1 Branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Deputy Secretary Tausif Ahmed signed the directives by order of the President, instructing that the transfers take immediate effect to streamline operational management across key units.
Under the new directives, several crucial commands have seen shifts in leadership, including the Mymensingh Range and Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP). Md Ataul Kibria, previously serving as the DIG of Mymensingh Range, has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in the same capacity. Taking his place as the new DIG of Mymensingh Range is Mohammad Jahidul Hasan, who was serving as the Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP).
Simultaneously, the leadership at Sylhet Metropolitan Police has been reorganized. SMP Commissioner Abdul Kuddus Chowdhury has been appointed as the new DIG of Chittagong Range. Sarwar Murshed Shamim, who held the post of DIG at the Police Headquarters, steps in as the new Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police. In a related administrative adjustment, a previously issued transfer order concerning CID DIG Mia Masud Karim has been officially cancelled, retaining him in his position.
Changes were also instituted across the rank of Additional DIG and field-level command posts. Sharif Uddin Ahmed, formerly a Superintendent of Police in the Anti-Terrorism Unit, has been promoted and posted to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) as a supernumerary Additional DIG. Meanwhile, Industrial Police Additional DIG Md Kafil Uddin has been transferred to the Police Headquarters to serve as Additional DIG (Current Charge).
At the district level, Pabna gets a new police chief. Pabna SP Md Sufiullah has been reassigned as a Special Superintendent of Police at CID, while Abu Ashraf, previously serving with the Anti-Terrorism Unit, assumes charge as the new Superintendent of Police for Pabna District.
Several other officers have been attached to various range headquarters. Additional DIG Nasiyan Wajed from the Police Staff College, SP A. F. M. Nizam Uddin from the Police Headquarters, and Special Branch (SB) Special SP Tahsin Masruf Hossain Masfi have all been attached to the Rangpur Range DIG Office.
Furthermore, Mohammad Ashiqur Rahman, SP of the In-Service Training Centre in Rajshahi, has been attached to the Khulna Range DIG Office, and CID SP Mir Abu Tauhid has been attached to the Chittagong Range DIG Office. Completing the reshuffle, Tourist Police SP Md Apel Mahmud has been assigned to the Rajshahi Range DIG Office.
