Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is set to hold a press briefing on Sunday over an alleged attack and vandalism at the studio of content creator Salman Muqtadir in the capital.
DMP Deputy Commissioner Md Aktar Hossain said Joint Commissioner Md Mahidul Islam will address journalists at the briefing and respond to questions concerning the incident.
The reported attack took place on Saturday night at New Guinea Properties near ECB Chattar in the capital, according to Salman Muqtadir. The incident has drawn attention after images and video footage of the damaged studio circulated on social media.
Following the incident, Salman posted a video on his verified Facebook page showing several parts of the studio in disarray. Chairs, tables, a television and other furniture and equipment appeared to have been damaged during the incident.
Several members of the studio staff were also seen crying in the footage.
Salman has suggested that the incident may be linked to an ongoing dispute over ownership of land associated with New Guinea Properties. He also raised the possibility that the studio may have been targeted as retaliation over an alleged extortion-related incident involving the landowner.
However, these claims have not yet been established independently, and the circumstances surrounding the attack remain under investigation. The police briefing is therefore expected to provide further information about what happened, the possible motive and any action taken so far.
The incident has also raised concerns about the safety of workplaces and commercial establishments when disputes over property ownership or other conflicts escalate. For the authorities, establishing whether the studio was deliberately targeted or was damaged in connection with a wider dispute will be an important part of the investigation.
